Happy Sunday all! This last week has been quite a long one, I’ve had lots to catch up with for my corporate client as well as working on some exciting plans for this little business of mine. It means that I am well and truly back at my desk (also known as, the sofa!) after being out and about working on 3 amazing weddings in quick succession. Note: my office is finally progressing, I will soon have a 'real' desk! I’m so bloody excited to have some dedicated work space. Anyway, I digress …
A few weeks ago, on May 12th the lovely Ffion and Matthew got married, the first of my 2018 weddings and boy was it a good day! When I first met Ffion we just clicked. She described herself as the ‘non-bridal bride’ but to me she was every bit the perfect bride to work with. She was confident in her style, in her likes and dislikes and she was going to make sure that her wedding reflected hers and Matthew’s personalities. YES! We also found out pretty quickly that we had an equal dis-appreciation for chair covers (apologies for any offence caused).
Ffion’s vision was a bright and cheerful colour scheme, with wild flowers to complement the rustic style of the venue, Llyn Gwynant Barns. A former Welsh literature student, she wanted to incorporate her love of books into the styling and she wanted a fun, non-stuffy day. Ffion did much of the planning herself, and she was an absolute pro. A fellow spreadsheet fan, she was super organised and managed to find some amazing suppliers to suit her style. We kept in close contact throughout the planning process and I loved hearing about her ideas for the day. At our regular meetings she would surprise me with how organised and calm she was, she really didn’t need a wedding planner for the ‘planning’ part! But, as a self-confessed control freak she was happy to have me as her confidante and right-hand woman, to make sure everything ran smoothly on the day and that all of her little bits of detail that she had so carefully thought through would come to life, beautifully and on time!
After a few weeks of bad weather all eyes were on the forecast as the wedding day came closer, and to be honest it didn’t look great. Whilst setting up the tables and chairs, laying linens and fitting the outdoor lighting the day before the wedding there was an almighty downpour! But, when I woke up the next day, it was glorious! Hooray!
Thanks to Ffion, Matthew and their wedding squad, much of the preparation was already done on the Friday and so when I got to the barns on the Saturday morning I just had the fun stuff left to do! Jan from Ty Blodau soon arrived with the most amazing floral arrangements so those were put in place, along with some final detail touches in the styling. We were soon set and ready for the groomsmen to arrive, quickly followed by the first guests.
If there is one word I can use to describe Matthew it would be ‘cool’. He is such a calm and collected character and seeing him so relaxed with his groomsmen was lovely. There was a very small incident with his buttonhole, but nothing some safety pins from my emergency kit couldn’t fix!
Ffion and her bridal party were getting ready not too far away, at a lovely cottage in Beddgelert. The glam squad included Rhiannon Pritchard, Bethan Wyn and Steph PH. The bridal look was just about the only part of the wedding that I hadn’t been involved with, so I was as excited as the guests to see Ffion and her ladies arrive at the Barns!
First to arrive were the bridesmaids, and they certainly arrived in style, in the super cool Nelly chauffeured by lovely Emma and they looked gorgeous too in their ASOS bridesmaids’ dresses. Shortly afterwards, ever so slightly and fashionably late, Ffion, and her proud parents arrived, again in Nelly who had returned to the cottage to collect them … and she was knockout! (more on this later!) …
Other than the tiniest drizzle of rain, the day ran perfectly. And to be honest, the rain didn't alter the mood one bit. All of the suppliers involved were amazing and it was great to work with such talented, hard working people. The wedding breakfast took place in the same space as the ceremony, which meant a room turn around and re-set. I’m used to doing all the heavy lifting myself in such cases, but with so many willing helpers around (shout out to the Dazzling Mobile Bar guys!) this was done super quick and with minimal interruption to the day.
Following some equally hilarious and heart-warming speeches, guests enjoyed a delicious meal lovingly prepared by Popty Pen Uchaf. Evening entertainment included Caracam - the super fun photo and video caravan and a DJ, who was also a friend of the happy couple. I left the party shortly after the first dance, the guys from Jones' Pizza had arrived ready to set-up for the evening food and my job was done! I left knowing that the party was in full swing and everyone was ready to dance the night away!
Ffion's last moments as a 'single lady'!
If you’ve been following me a while you’ll know that it is the personal touches and idiosyncrasies that I really love about weddings … and so, here are a few of my highlights from the day …
The Song choices!
Ffion and her bridal party made their way down the aisle to Adele’s Make you feel my love – such a tearjerker and it was lovely to hear a good friend of the couple play it live on the piano. Following the ceremony, Ffion and Matthew chose Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, sealed, delivered’ for the recessional! How very apt! The guests loved this choice and there were a few swinging hips as the guests left the ceremony! I have to add that this was followed by the theme tune to the Peaky Blinders, just brilliant!
Family bake off!
Ffion and Matthew had a ‘help yourself’ dessert station following their 2 course seated menu. This is becoming quite a popular choice in wedding catering. BUT at this wedding, it was all the more special because all of the desserts were made by the wedding guests, a really lovely touch. There was a little bit of a bake-off vibe going on and everyone was keen to see who chose whose masterpiece. I was lucky enough to try Ceri’s lemon and lime cheesecake … OH MY DAYS! It was just amazing. Quite possibly the best cheesecake I’ve ever tasted, so watch this space re a certain aforementioned television program, she should definitely enter!
The bridal look!
Ffion is a stylish lady, oozing confidence. I love how she left her gorgeous locks in loose waves adorned by the most luscious flower crown I’ve ever seen! During our planning process she admitted that she was struggling to find the right dress – but wow she did. She looked amazing… and the shoes! THE SHOES! Jimmy Choo’s of course, with all the sparkle that Ffion’s personality deserves. What I loved most was that she had managed to find an exact match in a flat shoe, so even when she was dancing the night away she was doing it in style! (I told you she was a wedding planning pro, all bases well and truly covered!)
I am such a sucker for pretty lettering. Especially when it so carefully matches the other design elements of the wedding. So, my final highlight is the wedding stationery, from the invites right through to the signage – all lovingly created by the amazing local talent, Lois from Magnetig.
Ffion and Matthew, you have been an absolute pleasure. Wishing you all the very best for your future.
Also, the biggest of thank-you’s to Gill Jones Photography (and Stephen) who were a joy to work with, and who captured this day so beautifully.
