REAL WEDDING: Laura and James – Friends, Fun and Fireworks!

I can remember the very first contact I had from Laura and James. Laura got in touch with me as she had been passed my contact details via a mutual friend. They had booked their wedding venue and done much of their supplier search, but were looking for someone to coordinate their day as well as some of the final bits of planning since they did not live in the area.

I remember that initial email so well because they had booked Bach Wen as their venue, and funnily enough so had I, literally just days before! So, we were on the planning journey together, both as planner and client and as two brides! We agreed to meet up and have a chat when they were next visiting and go from there. Chatting to Laura and James was easy, they are a fun couple who bounce off each other really well. I learnt that they had a connection to North Wales, Abersoch in particular. Laura’s family have a property there and so they have always spent a lot of time in North Wales. I love meeting people who are not from the area but who love it just as much as I do, and these two really do. I am truly hoping that it isn’t too long before they are able to visit North Wales again.

I hope this post back brings all those happy memories of a wonderful day … sending you both love on your First Anniversary, Mr and Mrs Cooper-Roby! x

Without further ado, lets skip to the big day! ...

Laura and James got married on the Sunday of the spring bank holiday weekend last year. They held their ceremony at the St Beuno Church, Clynnog Fawr, with guests walking the short distance between the Church and Bach Wen post ceremony. It was lovely having the bridal party get ready on site at Bach Wen in one of the cottages as it meant I could pop in and say hello. I don’t often see the bride during the morning, so it was extra special to see them all getting their glam on and soaking up the excitement. It also gave us a chance to discuss a few ‘surprises’ that had popped up overnight that meant some adjustments needed to be made to the day’s plan.

Their whole day was a really fun occasion, with guests sipping Pimms in the sunshine and children playing games in the open fields in front of the barn. Laura and James had hired childminders for the day, which meant that the adults could really relax (I may have spent a little time colouring with the kids myself during the afternoon! ha!).

Their wedding breakfast was a ‘Braai’, a South African barbecue which was served to the tables in the barn. Laura and James had styled the barn beautifully for their wedding breakfast with summer flowers dotted along the long guest tables which were named after episodes of Friends. Of course, the Top Table was aptly named ‘The one with the vows’.

As the sun set, the barn was cleared as the guests headed outside again to catch the last of the light and Laura and James headed down to the beach for some additional couple shots. I'm so happy that they managed to catch 'golden hour' together and have a little time together whilst we were busy re-setting the barn for the evening reception.

This included setting up a super cool ‘Til death do us party’ neon sign – a sign of a couple who know how to celebrate if ever I saw one! And the party well and truly kicked off with a ‘group dance’ to I’ll be there for you by The Rembrandts (another Friends reference!). I don’t think I have ever seen a fuller dance floor.

I signed off just before 11pm, and headed home with a big smile and lovely memories of a day spent celebrating a lovely couple.

Here are my highlights …

A strange highlight, I know! But this wedding depended on good weather and after a run of bad luck in this department I was really crossing my fingers for this one! A wedding planner will always have a plan B, but there is really no greater feeling than not having to use it! Just look at these images and imagine the difference if we'd had to ferry guests in cars, and get an indoor confetti shot. Exactly, totally lucked out!

The weather also helped in terms of set-up times and the general flow of the day. That might not sound exciting to you, but for a venue at it's limit and/or requiring a turn around in space it is everything!

Laura and James’ guest numbers were at the absolute limit of that at Bach Wen in terms of how many could be seated for the wedding breakfast. Many diagrams, calculations, walks back and forth in the barn (think football referees taking meter steps to position a free kick defensive wall … yes, I am a football fan!) were made in the weeks prior to the wedding. The hopeful weather forecast meant that the barn could be fully set the day before the wedding and wouldn't need to be retouched, bar the placement of flowers until after the wedding breakfast. This meant a lovely relaxed afternoon of sunshine for the guests, and myself! And there is no better venue than Bach Wen to be enjoying the sunshine!

Or should I say movie production?

Both Laura and James' parents gave really lovely heartfelt speeches about their children and how proud they were of the couple that they had become. James had everyone in tears as he spoke of his love for Laura. How he had managed to bag the girl of his dreams and how excited he was about their future together. But I think the highlight was the movie! Laura had helped the groomsmen put a surprise video together and it was so good, a real production! The barn was literally filled with laughter throughout.

What better way to celebrate the end of a beautiful day! Spectacular!

Keep safe,

Jade x
